APEC Calendar - 2012

  • January 30 – February 19, Moscow – First Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM1)
     

    The first Senior Officials’ Meeting, chaired by Russia’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivan Morgulov, took place last February in Moscow. The meeting focused on discussing priorities for APEC 2012, and deciding on initiatives to be discussed at the Leaders’ Week Forum in Vladivostok in September.

  • May 21 – 23, Gyeongju (Republic of Korea) – Education Ministerial Meeting
     

    The Education Ministerial held in Gyeonju, Korea, featured Russia’s Deputy Minister of Education and Science Sergei Ivanets as one of its opening speakers. The meeting was focused around the theme of "Future Challenges and Educational Responses: Fostering Global, Innovative, and Cooperative Education."

  • May 20 – June 5, Kazan – Second Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM2)
     

    The Second Senior Officials’ Meeting took place in Kazan, where officials continued to discuss APEC’s overall priorities, with liberalized trade and investment being at the top of the agenda.

  • May 30 – 31, Kazan – Food Security Ministerial Meeting
     

    The Food Security Ministerial was held in Kazan. With food security as one of the main priorities for APEC 2012, there was much discussion on short- and long-term ways to improve in the Asia-Pacific region.

  • June 4 -5, Kazan – Meeting of Ministers Responsible for Trade
     

    The Trade Ministerial was held in Kazan, with Andrey Belousov, Russia’s Minister of Economic Development, representing Russia and US Trade Representative Ambassador Ron Kirk representing the United States. It finished out the set of meetings held in Kazan, and focused on the overarching priorities set for APEC 2012 (trade liberalization, food security, establishing reliable supply chains, and cooperation for innovative growth)

  • June 24 – 25, St. Petersburg – Energy Ministerial Meeting
     

    The Energy Ministerial, held in St. Petersburg, was entitled “Energy Security: Key to Sustainable Growth.” Their meeting finished with a declaration highlighting the important role of natural gas, the need for an increase in energy efficiency, and for an improvement in nuclear security.

  • June 27 – 28, St. Petersburg – Meeting of Ministers Responsible for Mining
     

    The Mining Ministerial was held in St. Petersburg and with Denis Manturov, the Russian Minister of Trade and Industry, leading the Russian delegation. It was well-attended by various international organizations and focused on improving the investment climate in APEC economies and addressing the growing global commodity imbalance.

  • June 28 – 30, St. Petersburg – Women and the Economy Summit (WEF)
     

    The Women in the Economy Forum was held in St. Petersburg and attracted a number of high-level officials. It was made up of a number of events, namely a meeting of the APEC Policy Partnership on Women and the Economy (PPWE, an APEC working body on gender issues); a Public-Private Dialogue on issues related to women and the economy, including panel discussions on several priority areas; and a plenary meeting of the High Level Policy Dialogue. U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton spoke at the forum, highlighting the work completed since the first meeting of the Policy Partnership on Women and the Economy (PPWE) in September 2011 in San Francisco, and calling for further action.

  • July 16 – 18, Khabarovsk – Meeting of Ministers Responsible for Environment
     

    The Environmental Ministerial was held this July 16-18 in Khabarovsk. The session was chaired by Russia’s Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, Sergey Donskoy, and focused on conservation, sustainability, and environmental management in our changing times.

  • July 23 – 24, Khabarovsk – Tourism Ministerial Meeting
     

    The APEC 2012 Tourism Ministerial will take place July 23 – 24 in Khabarovsk.

  • August 3, St. Petersburg – Small and Medium Enterprises Ministerial Meeting
     

    The Small and Medium Enterprise Ministerial for APEC 2012 will take place on the 3rd of August in St. Petersburg.

  • August 3, St. Petersburg – Special Transportation Ministerial Meeting
     

    The APEC 2012 Transportation Ministerial will take place August 3rd in St. Petersburg. The previously scheduled Transportation Working Group meeting was upgraded to a ministerial in light of the special importance of reliable supply chains as one of the 4 main priorities of APEC 2012.

  • August 6 – 8, St. Petersburg – Telecommunications and Information Ministerial Meeting
     

    APEC 2012’s Telecommunications and Information Ministerial will take place August 6 – 8 in St. Petersburg.

  • September 2 – 9, Vladivostok – APEC 2012 Leaders’ Week
     

    APEC 2012’s Leaders’ Week will take place September 2 – 9 in Vladivostok. The week will be made up of a series of high-level official meetings - the CEO Summit, Final Senior Officials’ Meeting, Ministerial, Business Advisory Council Meeting, and Economic Leaders Meeting.
