Remarks by Ambassador Beyrle at the United Airlines Moscow-Washington Service Launch
March 30, 2009
Domodedovo Airport
It is with great pleasure that I join you this morning to commemorate the inaugural flight of United Airlines 965, with non-stop service from Moscow to Washington DC. I congratulate both United and Domodedovo Airport on this momentous occasion.
This flight, directly linking our two capitals, will facilitate travel, encourage more contact between our citizens, and provide even more opportunities for business interests to prosper. It will assist in our joint efforts to build bridges between our two great nations. I’m sure that many Russian and American government officials, including myself, will take advantage of this new flight in the coming months and years.
Moreover, and despite the economic crisis, our bilateral trade and tourism ties continue to deepen. I expect that more businesspeople and tourists from both countries will use this new service, whether to conduct business, see firsthand the White House in Washington or the Kremlin in Moscow, or use Dulles Airport’s convenient connections within the U.S. The United States has become an increasingly popular tourist destination for Russians and we look forward to extending a warm welcome to even more Russian visitors.
I wish United Airlines and Domodedovo Airport success with this new endeavor and look forward to watching your business grow.
