Remarks by Ambassador John Beyrle Joint Press Conference with the Russian Anti-Drug Agency and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency
Interfax News Agency - (As Prepared) - July 23, 2010
I am very glad to join you today at the announcement of this successful joint operation between the Russian Anti-Drug Agency and the United States Drug Enforcement Agency.
This is a striking example of the new spirit of cooperation between Russia and the United States in the fight against narcotics. It is a result of the work of the Counter-Narcotics Working Group of the Bilateral Presidential Commission, created last year by President Medvedev and President Obama.
More important, it is the result of successful cooperation on the ground between the dedicated and courageous professionals of the Russian Anti-Drug Agency and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency. They risk their lives every day to stop the flow of narcotics into our countries.
This operation shows that Russia and the United States can and will work together as partners in those areas which affect our vital national interests. We can and will work together to reduce the flow of drugs which causes so much harm to both our countries.
