English Language Office
Professional Development
The English Language Office supports Russia's English teachers' associations (FEELTA, NATE, SPELTA, and others) in organizing conferences and professional development programs on regional and national levels. Through Washington's English Language Specialist Program, the ELO conducts projects on teacher training, curriculum development, and materials design. The ELO also supports the Umbrella Virtual Association, an e-mail based joint project between Russian ELT Associations and the ELO. Currently, three Umbrellas (Western Russia, Far East, and Siberia) provide continuous contacts, discussion, and information exchange between Russian ELT associations, individual teachers, and institutions. This electronic network for ELT professionals can be joined by e-mailing lubninaen@state.gov. The ELO also identifies suitable candidates for the Embassy's International Visitor programs in TEFL and American Studies. Upon request, the ELO serves as a consultant to educators on English language issues and projects in Russia.
