Teaching American Culture through the Elections Vocabulary

On October 15, English Language Officer David Fay gave a presentation entitled, “Chads, Soccer Moms and Swing States: A Glimpse of US Culture through 'electionspeak'” at the American Center in Moscow. The focus of the presentation was on teaching American culture through the special vocabulary developed for or used during election seasons. The presenter shared various activities that can be used for teaching English language students as well as some elections-related vocabulary that are now part of the everyday language. The audience represented by the English language teachers, members of MELTA (Moscow English Language Teachers' Association), and students received the presentation very well. This workshop was one of the Teacher to Teacher workshop series to be held at Moscow American Center twice a month.
