Prestigious Moscow University Holds Conference on English Language Teaching

From Wednesday, November 19 to Friday, November 21 approximately 250 English language instructors, trainers and department heads from universities across the Russian Federation attended Moscow State University’s “Teacher, Student, Textbook” Conference. The event took a detailed look at key issues influencing the restructuring of methods and materials in the Russian educational system. U.S. Embassy’s Public Affairs Section played a key role in the opening of the Conference, with ACAO Janae Cooley’s opening address in Russian and ELO David Fay’s plenary on incorporating an understanding of English as an International Language into the curriculum. In total, there were over 200 presentations made in Russian and English. During the closing, ELO honored Professor Svetlana Ter-Minosova for her 50 years of contributions to the field of language teaching and cross-cultural understanding, with an emphasis on furthering mutual understanding between the U.S. and Russia.
