Neill S. Brown (1850-1853)

A native of
Tennessee, Neill Smith Brown was Governor of that state from 1847-49. He
was nominated as Minister by President Zachary Taylor, but served under
President Millard Fillmore. Brown's younger brother John Calvin Brown
was a Confederate Army General during the Civil War. During Brown's tour
of duty in St. Petersburg, Russia closed its outpost of Fort Ross in
California.
