Working Together to Reduce Disaster Risk
June 19, 2012
Experts from the U.S. and Russia are meeting in Moscow this week to discuss how we can work together to reduce risks and impacts of natural disasters. Under the aegis of the Science and Technology Working Group and the Emergency Situations Working Group of the Bilateral Presidential Commission, representatives from the U.S. Geological Survey, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the U.S. Agency for International Development, and the University of Fairbanks in Alaska joined their colleagues from the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Ministry of Education and Science, Roshydromet, EMERCOM, and Roscosmos to identify specific steps that we can take together to make our shared backyard – the Kamchatka-Aleutian-Alaska region – safer for people and their livelihoods.
