Ambassador Beyrle Receives Metropolitan Jonah

On April 27, the Ambassador received Metropolitan Jonah of All America and Canada of the Orthodox Church of America (OCA) along with a delegation of senior OCA clergy, including Archbishop Seraphim, Archimandrite Zacchaeus, Archpriest Leonid Kishkovsky, Archpriest Alexander Garklavs and Brother Gregory Stevens.

Metropolitan Jonah, who became the OCA Primate in November 2008, is making his first official visit to Russia at the invitation of Moscow Patriarch Kirill. The Ambassador and Metropolitan Jonah discussed the important role of the Orthodox Church and other religious denominations in strengthening U.S.-Russian ties.

The Ambassador expressed gratitude for the work carried out by the OCA Representative to the Moscow Patriarchate, Archimandrite Zacchaeus, Dean of St. Catherine the Martyr Church, spiritual home for many Orthodox expatriates in Moscow and members of the Embassy staff.
