Launch of America.gov Website

January 15, 2008

The U.S. State Department has launched America.gov, a dynamic new website covering U.S. policy, society and values for foreign audiences. America.gov features enhanced interactivity and visuals and provides in-depth information on American culture and values and their relevance to U.S. foreign policy. The site's motto is "Telling America's Story." "We seek to make America.gov part of a two-way conversation between Americans and people in other countries," Secretary Condoleezza Rice said during the launch of the new website. "This exciting outlet allows our diplomats to reach out and engage with men and women around the world about issues affecting all our lives."

Rather than a series of discrete articles, the new site integrates multi-media content into comprehensive packages on key topics related to up-to-date domestic and international events. The site includes interactive elements such as videos, polls, quizzes, and pictorial information, along with traditional word-based stories. The site has been designed for ease of navigation based on extensive audience user research.

Over the next few months, America.gov will be expanding to include content in Arabic, Chinese, French, Persian, Russian, and Spanish.
