Ambassador Burns Visits Murmansk
July 19, 2007
On July 19, William Burns paid his first visit as ambassador to the Heroic City of Murmansk. Following a courtesy call on First Deputy Governor Aleksandr Anatolyevich Selin, the Ambassador and the Deputy Governor placed a commemorative wreath on the monument to those who perished during the polar convoys, which carried vitally important Lend Lease equipment and supplies to the Soviet Union during World War II. Later, the Ambassador met with local businessmen at the Murmansk Chamber of Commerce to discuss economic trends and the possibilities for foreign investment.
