Kronos Quartet Gives Concert in Moscow
Location: Moscow
Date: September 07, 2004
On September 7, the Kronos Quartet (USA) and Kluster (Finland) gave a joint concert at the Moscow Palace of Youth. The musicians presented a project, which combined academic music, new jazz, rock, electronics, avant-garde theater, ballet, video art and modern audiovisual technologies. For the past 30 years Kronos Quartet has been at the top of contemporary academic music scene. For a number of years, many music critics ranked the group as the best string quartet. The Quartet plays music, which breaks the boundaries between academic and ethnic music, jazz and rock. The musicians first came into the world of rock and show business after playing classical music, turning a string quartet concert into an entertaining show. Around 40 contemporary composers from different countries wrote and write music for this group. Kronos Quartet's past includes joint recordings and shows with rock musicians, original versions of jazz and rock hits, more than 30 recorded albums, prestigious music awards including the "Grammy." This was the third visit of the musicians to Moscow: concerts took place in Moscow in 1997 and 1998.
