On October 2-20, Alfred Schnitke International Festival ran in Moscow, marking the 70-year anniversary of the contemporary composer's birthday. The U.S. Embassy in Moscow was one of its organizers. For more than three decades, the music of Alfred Schnitke belongs to the repertoire of the most famous European and world performers. Schnitke is not only a classic able to reflect our time, but is one of most played composers in the world. Among the festivals coinciding with the 70-year anniversary birthday of the composer, which tour this year in many countries of the world, the Moscow forum had super-star musician participants, many of which in their time were first performers of Alfred Schnitke's work. In the Moscow festival, American musicians performed, prominent composer Kurt Mazur and the world renown Kronos Quartet.
