Color, Form and Mechanical Connections of Lisa Vershbow

Location: Kaliningrad
Dates: July 20 - September 20, 2004

From July 20 - September 20, 2004, 135 pieces of art made by Lisa Vershbow including 25 pieces with amber are displayed at Kaliningrad's Amber Museum. The exhibition draws on Lisa's impressions and experiences while living in Russia. The unique collection combines her own personal style with amber - a classic Russian material for jewelry. Lisa's bold designs and brightly colored materials are her way of capturing the vibrant energy of life in 21st-century Moscow. She also pays homage to traditional Russian culture in her series of Russian tea-glass holders (podstakanniki), that offer a whimsical interpretation of a classic form. In addition, Lisa draws inspiration from an earlier revolutionary period in Russian culture, the avant garde art of the twenties, which has fascinated her since her student days. Last but not least, another influence can be found in the harsh extremes of the Russian climate, as reflected in the colors and forms of many of her current pieces that she has named for the seasons.
