Famous Hollywood "Vanity Fair" photographs of Edward Steichen

On March 16 as part of the 4th International "Fashion and Style in Photography" festival opened an exhibition of photographs by Edward Steichen from the international museum of photography and film George Eastman House (US) at the Moscow House of Photography. Photographer Edward Steichen (1879-1973) is considered one of the most gifted and influential figures of 20th Century photography. During the course of his long life, he worked in different styles in both black and white and in color. Themes of his work were likewise divergent, ranging from portraits and landscapes to fashion, advertisements, dance and sculpture. All of Steichen's work are notable for their high feeling of style. In the 1920-30s, his photographs were regularly published in the periodicals "Vogue" and "Vanity Fair." From 1947 to 1962, he was the director of the Photography Department at the Contemporary Museum of Art in New York. Like a creative persona, designer, exhibit organizer and director of art projects, Edward Steichen undoubtedly influenced the art of photography in his time and belongs to a category of a few people, whose ideas, energy and work determined the style of 20th Century photography.
