On behalf of the citizens of the United States, I express our respect for the heroism of the Russian people during the 900 day siege of Leningrad. Under the harshest of circumstances the citizens of Leningrad displayed great courage in defense of their city. The sacrifice of the people of this city was an invaluable contribution to the defeat of a common totalitarian enemy. The United States honors their bravery.
