Abandonment of Lawful Permanent Resident Status (I-407)

Lawful Permanent Residents (LPRs) who wish to abandon their permanent resident status and relinquish their Permanent Resident Card should come to window #20 at the U.S. embassy in Moscow located at Novinsky Bulvar 19/23 any working day between 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm, where USCIS Moscow will provide Form I-407, Abandonment of Lawful Permanent Residence. Please remember to bring the Permanent Resident Card and another valid identification document, such as a passport, to the USCIS window for completing the Form I-407. There is no fee for this service.

As part of this process, an Adjudications Officer will review the Form I-407 and will ask the LPR a few questions. After the form is signed, USCIS will provide a copy of the form to the individual. After abandoning LPR status and relinquishing the Permanent Resident Card (which will be destroyed), the individual will no longer be a permanent resident of the United States and must comply with any applicable U.S. visa requirements in order to travel to the United States. The individual should keep a copy of the completed and signed Form I-407 as it may be requested when applying for a visa or when entering the United States.
